Help Wanted: a new area of the HYH page to let the members know what help the Board needs to continue or enhance your services. We Need Help!
Donations Coordinator: The Board needs someone to coordinate donations (in the event that we are contacted by the public for a donation) this person would be responsible for contacting the person, to pick up the items, to go through and organize the items and disburse them among the services of the guild. This person would report to the 2nd VP. If interested speak to Toni Gilleeny or Dot Braunstein.
Nomination Committee: 3 members to work on finding interested members to fill upcoming vacancies in the voted positions for the 2011 Board. This committee will present the potential slate of officers for 2011 in October to the membership and the vote will take place in November. This committee reports to the President. Talk to Toni Gilleeny if interested. (needed tonight!)
National Quilting Day: In order to provide you with fun classes in March 2011 for National Quitling Day, we need someone to coordinate. (one idea: possible two days on the third weekend in March, of three classes each day, including lunch, at the Rec. Center) If you want to keep this tradition alive, speak to Toni tonight about organizing it. This person reports to the 1st VP to coordinate facility usage and program content…
Comfort Quilts: For 2011 we will need a new coordinator for Comfort Quilts. This person would be responsible for coordinating the comfort quilt program, including; coordinating kits for members, keeping a record of participants, distributing the finished quilts to area facilities in need, coordinating challenges and patterns to spark interest… This person would report to the 2nd VP.
** Please remember, no person is an Island. Being a committee head means you coordinate a committee of helpers and report to the Board, not do everything yourself (delegating!). All of the committess or Board members need help. Pick your favorite activity and ask how you can participate as an active member.

2010 ELIQG WORKSHOPS
Sponsored by ELIQG to bring nationally recognized teachers to our area.
Held at Southold Rec Center, Peconic Lane, Peconic, unless otherwise noted, 9 A.M. – 4 P.M.
Fee $50. Payment deadline is the month before the workshop occurs.
Thursday, August 5 - Barbara Arnold Sashiko Workshop: Explore the beauty of this simple but challenging quilting stitch. All skill levels. Hand sewing. Location: Southold, Peconic Rec. Center, 9 AM - 3 PM
Thursday, September 2 - Cindy Z. Oravecz: Victorian Wreath of Wildflowers
Shape fabric and ribbons into colorful wildflowers that will bloom as a Victorian wreath on a 12-inch quilt block. This class will feature all-new techniques that are not from Cindy's first two books. Relaxing hand gathering stitches that do not have to be perfect will form flowers like the yellow sand Verbena, Milkwort, Prairie Acacia, Bunchberry, Camilla and the New York Ironweed. The quilt block can be part of an album quilt or trimmed with a 3-D swag border for a wall hanging.
Thursday, October 7 - Karen McTavish: Wholecloth Design Workshop: Learn machine quilting tips and techniques from an award-winning master quilter. Karen's style of quilting, dubbed McTavishing, focuses on intricate designs delicately framing the quilted block. Her work is particularly striking when utilized on appliqued blocks and can include delicate trapunto workmanship. You are sure to learn some master machine quilting techniques from this artist.

ELIQG Members Teaching Members Workshops
Workshops offered by ELIQG members for ELIQG members:
Usually scheduled for the third Sunday of most months (depending on teacher availability),
at Southold Rec Center (Unless otherwise noted) from 9 A.M.— 4 P.M. and are $15.
Nov. 14 - (2nd Sunday) Marie Deuel: Paper Piecing @ the Peconic Rec. Center.
Interested in making those cute little blocks, but thought they were too challenging? Paper piecing is a fold and sew technique that allows for creating blocks with intricate designs with the ease of following steps in numerical order. The added benefit is in the use of small pieces of fabric to complete the designs.

2011 Quilt Show : We are off and running on the guild's 30th Anniversary quilt show. I am very excited to be the Chairman for the 2011 show, it has always been my most favorite guild activity. Barbara Arnold has graciously stepped forward to be the co-chair for the show, and will be a fantastic chairman for the 2012 show. The raffle quilt pattern has been decided upon by the committee. Many members have volunteered to chair the committee positions, but there are still some open positions. Please see me or Barbara if you are interested. We will keep you posted on the activities of the committee and we are open to any ideas you may have for changes or additions to the show. Remember, this is your guild, participate. Beverly Delaney

Westhampton Cares 82 wheelchair size
Bellhaven Nursing Home 10 wheelchair size (made by D. Herold)
Peconic Bay Medical Center Nursing Center 25 wheelchair size
Peconic Bay Medical Center (maternity) 25 baby size

Southampton Hospital Maternity 40 baby size
(the first place baby challenge [fish] is to be displayed on the wall outside the nursery)
This year to date we only have a total of 27 quilts, so it doesn't look like as many will benefit from the generosity of our members.
Please note that Mr. Jerry Coppola (a non-member) donated 27 pieced tops (in memory of his late wife, which he made using her stash). At the show three of these tops were tied and finished. If you would like to finish a top, please stop by and pick one up at the August meeting.
As usual, we will have a selection of kits.
HOLIDAY SOCIAL 2010: The Chinese Auction for December is right on track, but we could use your help in a few areas. We are looking for baby fabrics, fall fabrics, and any sports fabrics. Give donations to myself or one of my committee members: Arlene Lamberti, Ellen Weider, Lynn Kinsella, Dot Braunstein, Dot Murray, Kathy Kiss. We have plenty of small baskets, so no more please. Large & medium baskets are fine. PS: if you don’t have donations, please think about contributing to the 50-50 at the guild meetings. This helps fund our supplies needed to complete baskets.
Thank you, Ellen Weider.
